Watermelon of Jenin

$9.50

Jadu'i
is a legendary watermelon variety from Jenin. Jenin is a city located in the northern West Bank where Palestinian farmers used to grow the ba'al succulent watermelon known as Jadu'I. There was a time when Jadu'i watermelons (pronounced "jah-doo-AYE") were exported from Jenin by truck to Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria. Associated with ba'al agriculture (unirrigated, rain-fed farming), these watermelons were long known for their resilience, and beloved for their sweet, rich flavor, and large size. This watermelon is of deep importance to many Palestinian people.

Despite what we believe to be wrong or right, the disruption of Palestinian lifeways through the years have lead to the near extinction of this beloved watermelon.

Below you can find sources to help restore the native heirloom seed and other Palestinian endeavors.

Description:

This soap will have your taste buds going on a spree. A sweet & fruity scented bar with notes of juicy watermelon, honeydew, citrus, strawberry, and lily. It also has a light undertone of amber and iris.
